Reminds me Ian, of two old men behind the house, talking over the back fence...about how good things were.  Meanwhile, up front on the other side...the neighborhood has gone to hell.  Ships passing in the night.  Times are a changin'.  My great uncle (1918) would not recognize the place...nor do I.  My great grandparents were both immigrants from Scotland.  They thought enough of their son's commitment to declare it right up front for everyone to see...forever.  I wonder how many "citizens" understand that kind of commitment today?  How many possess that degree of love-of-country?

It used to be that the enemy was overseas and our nations sent our young men to protect us from those who would enslave us. We thank them for their service. But now, the enemy is within our own nations and again desiring to enslave us and to take away those freedoms that many of our veterans died or were maimed both physically and mentally to preserve. Thank you to all those, living and dead, who have fought the good fight. But God is still in charge, no matter what happens to us.

Tom is right, honoring our veterans and current service members is what this day is for but should not be limited to today. I have the unique opportunity to honor both American and Canadian veterans and current service members as an American living in Canada, today is their Remembrance Day as well.
