Andrew-
Here's an article from your side of the pond. Mike Stuart expounds on the virtue of painted decal sheets. You might find it useful.

Andrew,
As with plastic modeling, water slide decals require a very smooth surface for application to avoid the air bubbles that can form under the decal causing a blemish especially in the clear part of a decal.  Microset has couple solutions for this: Click Here
I recommend a smooth gloss surface for where you're placing the water slide decal even on the stick and tissue models.

Thank you v much for your guidance.
Only yesterday I had the thought that maybe sliding a wet transfer onto delicate previously shrunk tissue paper might not be a good idea.
What do most successful modellers use?  Vinyl decals?
All the best,
Andrew w

Andrew, refer to the "decals" section on this website, maybe something in there will help. https://www.stickandtissue.com/forum/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=decal101  Also look into/search for, "water slide decal paper" online, you can create anything you want, depending on your computer skills. I have had mixed results/opinions about water slide paper.

Decals, Water based.

Hello there.
I am quite new to balsa modelling.
I have, as well as I am able, searched the S&T site for info as to the types of decals available for a small balsa plane..
I really want to use water driven sliding type decal transfers on a small balsa aircraft rather than the decals which have been provided (printed onto standard paper) which must be cut out.
Please, what type of decals do you folks normally use when you want to apply decals?
Many thanks, Andrew w.
