I believe that most modlers lube after braiding. That's just IMO. Here's a great video from Endlesslift: Click Here by Gary Hinze

Is the rubber lube applied before or after the braiding?

I'm much obliged for the effort you put in your reply. Sadly, postage from US is around $60 US, and the Australian supplier has no stock. Regards.

Free Flight (always capitalized) has several sites that cater to our hobby and supply needs:
Volare Model Supplies for FAI tan super sport rubber: Click Here

Easy Built Models grey and tan rubber: Click Here

Haven't tried this source but Google supplied this link to Australian "Frontline Hobbies" that have rubber supplies also: Click Here

FAI Model Supplies, Tan Super Sport Rubber: Click Here

Peck Polymers model supplies: Click Here

You should be able to find what you're looking for at one of these sites.

FAI (Federation Aeronautics International) Tan Rubber is used by most serious Free Flight Modelers but if you're not looking for competition rubber Easy Built grey rubber or Guillows blue rubber should work for you also.  Best of luck!

Rubber Band question.

Hi all. New to the site and S&T modelling. I have some plans for an ornithopter, and it calls for "Model Airplane Rubber, 1/8" wide by 18" long".
I take it that this isn't a rubber band. Can anyone tell me where I can get this product? I am in Australia, so perhaps there is a generic material I can use? Or a different approach?
And finally, is airplane rubber different to rubber bands obtainable from stationery stores.
Thanks!
