This is my new winding table. Think I got maybe 12 dollars in it. Not sure if it's big enough, lol.
I found it a few years ago and finally did something with it.  It has foldable legs and tail pin holders, and a sling.
   I replaced the paperboard top with a 3/16 inch thick sheet of scrap paneling. { another score of hoarding/yard sailing lol} Got the  foldable shelf brackets from Menards on sale.   They fold down to carry and lock up to wind.  Will probly peg to the ground to wind the jumbos.   The little ones are fine to wind just as it is, up too a single loop of 1/8 for sure, maybe 2 loops. That wont pull as hard as 16 strands of 3/16.  I have a few jumbos to wind.
  Going to use a styrofoam block and rags for now, to hold up what ever I'm winding. Might build a cradle that holds small tools ect later.  Can drill mounting holes in the shelf brackets according to whatever height I want or need. 
    The sling is hand made by my wife. She does macramé for a hobby and she sells some of it. Should make carrying it to a suitable spot easy.  She really supports my wasted time. Pretty cool to have an ally.

LOl, I think we misunderstood each other. I should have been more clear, sorry.
The 262 in the pic is a plastic model. Revell. It is maybe 7 or 8 inches span, something like that. I built most of it while driving for crst, several years ago. For the camo spots, I cut holes in a cardboard carton side and sprayed thru it.  This was the last plastic model I built in a truck because of the fumes.  spray paint and model glue can stink up a truck for days, lol.

  I would like to try semi scale cat launch gliders and I think the 262 would be an interesting choice.  I adore the unusual shape. I think the plan I found would be light enough if you skip all the electric motor stuff. Maybe go with single channel so I don't have to chase it as far? maybe?
  There are several models I would like to build as only gliders because it would be alot of extra work to propel them and, just to see how they fly on their own merits.  The PBY Catalina seems like it would be an excellent semi scale glider.  Removing the props and LG just before a flight, solves a lot of building problems and expense. These are planes I like the looks of, but don't really want to do a full on powered  build.  Another example would be the gull like you have on FFA.  I bet that would be a gorgeous piece of wood work.   
 
Along those lines, I also have an interest in gliding a wright bros plane and use a scale launch mechanism like they had.  
  All these things to explore later. Currently on an old timer binge.

  I think the fire truck is about 10 inches.
I love the 262 for the shape. Always wondered how it would do as a cat launch glider?

   Temporary build table due to weather, ect. The real table will be put off by a month or so because of "honey do's". This way I can hit it when she's not looking ..lol
    Needed to clean out way too many dead projects so here, A fire truck, a 262, and my granddaughters first model, a 57 chevy.
    Snap tite on the chevy and the fire truck.
She did most of the chevy herself. Learning to use knives and sand paper. We like sand paper alot better at this point.

   I have to clean out some stuff to make room for other things. Cant mount the good shelves till I can get to the wall.  Seems like I just move stuff around and never really clean up anything. The plastics only needed minor stuff, I just forgot about them.

   Next on the list is a winding/field table. I have a frame with fold up legs that I have been saving but it needs a new top and that will help clear out more space, I also have a pair of large wheels for it to move it around. Like a dolly type of thing.
   WAY too many projects. Junk piled on junk.

Back to it. Got a chance to glide test and it was horrible, lol. There's just enough minor warpage/hanger rash to the main wing to make it fly in a death spiral.
I flattened it all out buy pinning it to a board and getting the wood wet several times. Then I filed down the weak ends and glued a scab on and sanded.
I also removed the front part of the roof window frame, continued the slot the rest of the way out to the wing tips, and added an extra spar on top. For sure that stiffened things up. Then I recovered it in white mystery tissue. I seem to have alot of that around here. lol.
New glide tests are much more promising.

Ok, back on track.
I have several planes that need to fly or burn. I need the space.
We will start with this one.

I'm pretty sure it is a Sterling Monocoupe. I cant find the cowl anywhere. She is in rough shape, but the wood is still pretty good. If I recall, It tested pretty well in tall grass and indoors.
As for the LG, I never did make wheels for it. Cant believe the gear is still attached !  It does not even have wire support, but it did fly and land several times.
This will be a simple refresh so I can try it out. I don't have time for a proper rebuild.
The finish could be white tinted dope, or more likely, thinned laxtex or something like that. Back then I experimented with both. Pretty sure this is the latter.
