Here's the new build along side of my yet-to-be finished P-31. You can see the similarities in the Curtiss designs. The Shrike w/s is 14". Planned paint scheme is the colorful OD and yellow.

Go for it, Andy...Shrike will be a real beauty!  Smiley  Been eye-balling her for years...alas, don't think she's in my future.  Plan at 22"ws currently available at OuterZone...was published years ago in MB Magazine...then sold by Diels who currently has a kit available.

I look forward to seeing this one come together. What span will this one be?

A question that I've been wrestling with for a while...I wanted to stay in the "Golden Age" but couldn't make up my mind. Lots of interesting material there.

One model kept coming up, the Curtiss A-8 Shrike, an early 30s attack design. Seldom modeled and would make a colorful Army paint scheme.

The more I looked into the airplane, the more intrigued I became. It's a design with one foot in the post WW1 world and the other in the emerging pre-WW2 technology.

Curtiss was also trying to attract attention to its P-31 fighter design and this small competitor to the Boeing P-26 seems to share a number of features found in the Shrike. Sadly for Curtiss, neither design had much success, The P-31 lost out to the Boeing Peashooter while the A-8 managed to make it to production but only in small numbers, and then they didn't last very long.
