There's that "tall grass" again, Tom...must be under your "greenhouse lamp."  Wink

I recall some years ago coaching a baseball team.  There was one particular diamond we visited occassionally that was located next to an alphalpha field.  Before the game I had to "enlist" a group of kids to run down foul balls that landed out there...how to find them again!  Take a bearing...look for a particular point on the horizon...start walking and don't deviate. Worked pretty well...usually..."tall grass."  I'll bet that mower whacked a lot of baseballs every year. Grin Grin Smiley

Enjoyed that movie too, it's been a long time ago!
You're right the modeler who did the static model is a real artist.  Looks like a "dry brush" technique.  Lots of work.

I like the yellow scheme!  Makes her easier to find in the tall grass! Grin Wink

Thank you, TMG...a labor of love...as is for all of us.  Smiley

Good Morning USA!  Hey...wife and I watched that old flick last night of a similar name...a lot of fuss made over that film back in '85...and for the life of me, can't figure out why now.  Horrible script...like when Amn C. claims SgtMaj Dixon will have him packing a rifle in the bush...don't think so...maybe KP...but not an Airman as an infantryman in the bush. Huh  Anyway...she likes the movies, even though she can't remember much about it afterward.  Cry  I'll be honest...can't remember hearing the guy on AFRTS...maybe because I can't recall listing to it much.  Everyone had their own music. Cool

As can be seen in this first pic...have covered the entire fuselage center-section, including the area to be glazed.  Idea is that when sprayed finish is applied, hopefully I won't be painting the interior area as well.  Afterward I'll cut the tissue away for the glazing installation (the part I dislike doing).

On the other hand...V7+1H as recovered from Russia was in an overall whitewash finish...very weathered...as can be imagined.  Has got me thinking...would be simple to rough such a scheme in...just leave the light grey tissue as the base.  Or...maybe it wouldn't be so simple.  Here are a couple of display model pics illustrating a very well effected winter scheme.  Truthfully...such artistry is well beyond my talents.

Sooooo...lastly is a nice scheme of a 189 from a different Eastern Front unit....  I like the chrome yellow here and there...breaks up the monotony of all that "white (or green)."  But then...monotony is what one is looking for when it comes to concealment, isn't it. What the heck...is merely sticks n' tissue.

Well...finally bribed the time-keeper to give me some time to get skin on this model...taking forever!  At first I thought I'd cover it assembled...done that many times...but decided that approach would indeed...take forever.  So...cut it all apart...covered...then reassembled...ugh.  Tissue is overall light grey...intend to spay a finish onto the upper surfaces...bottom to remain light grey (as opposed to some people's impression of sky blue).  So...crawling along at a snail's pace....  Man am I ready to get away from this model!  Actually...I've already constructed two other models...in my mind.  Sounds like I'm in solidarity confinement, doesn't it. I used to scold Bob for seemingly never finishing a model (in my own mind) and now, I think maybe I understand where he was coming from (again...in my own mind).  God bless Bob and his family. Smiley

Had entire family here for our Thanks Giving last Sunday...felt like it was "das letzte Abendmahl."  Do they all know something I don't? Huh  Happy Thanksgiving to all of YOU!  Smiley

Thanks, Mike!

Here's a pic of a new pilot being "checked-out" at his new frontline unit..."There's your pitch-setting switch...has three postions...all automatic.  Be certain to pay attention to your settings as fuel consumption is at issue."  Ja...ja...something like that. Smiley

I agree with Ian... at that scale the last pic in lower right corner looks perfect.  Gives the impression of the finned spinner and serves it purpose perfectly! We are often our worst critic! Sad Wink

Neal, it is a detail that, in the end, only you will notice. So, you are the only one who has to be pleased with the final result. If you leave it off entirely, it will not take away from the effort at all. I thought that the last pic in the lower right corner looked good.

Here's my first attempt at the prop pitch controller...I don't like it...and the more I try to create those fins by sanding...the more they seem to break away...soooo.

Next idea was to install card stock into a sliced opening...then trim fins with surgical scissors.  Tried that...but is very tedious and I tend to make the fins too large...looks out of place...unnatural...not right.

So maybe it's just better to sand the entire creation into a spinner shape...like appeared on the first prototypes.... This may be a case of too much detail ruining the "artwork."
