Yes, Neal, I did build a similar model, the Frog Linnet. I like the twin rudder airplanes, like the Ercoupe.

That's some wild colors Ian. My daughter would have loved that in her younger years (she had me paint a half-size foam Sparky pink and silver when she was about 6).

More pics of the finished product. I have done some test glides. I'll post the link when I upload it.

Took a while to get the videos stitched together and uploaded.

Thanks Mike. I ran into a problem with painting the tissue. The black spots on the tissue are solvent soluble. I couldn't use dope, so I went back to an acrylic finish using floor polish. The stab twisted  with the extra shrinkage, so I threw it out and used a piece of 1/16 " balsa to replace it. The plane is nose heavy, and I had to add extra weight to the tail anyways. Final all-up weight is 16.9 grams after adding 1.4 grams of weight to the tail.

I have some closeups of the charging port and the capacitor as well as a side-view of the covered fuselage.

Yes, your frames do look great! I think it's interesting how you did your wing. A built-up c-channel with half ribs and sticks trailing off. Probably much more warp resistant then the original.

Great set of bones.  I often hear guys say it's a shame to cover all that great work!!  I agree!! But she'll be a great flyer for you!  Well done! Smiley

Thanks, Tom. The torque that the motor put out was unbelievable to me for such a small unit. This is a bones shot. Covering to follow.

Looking very good Ian...can't wait for the maiden and seeing how the capacitor power works out for you.  I wonder if it could power the small EDF I have for my FJ4 that gained too much weight and I'm thinking of making another one much lighter.  Keep up the great work!

General pieces. The black supports in the window are bamboo as is the tail skid. The piece of balsa in the landing gear area will be cut out in order to glue in the capacitor and charging port. The Landing Gear will go just in front of the capacitor. Noseblock will be 1/4" balsa drilled out for the motor. I sheeted the center section of the wing with 1/32 balsa sanded thinner in order to take the rubber bands holding on the wing. I will  use a couple of bamboo toothpicks for the wing supports.

This is the motor and capacitor assembly from J&H Aerospace. Weight: 5.75 grams.
The wing follows my usual construction. Laminated tips. 1/16" sq LE and TE. 1/32 sheet ribs on the forward half. X bracing for the trailing ribs. The X-es are glued together where they cross. Along with the built up main spar, it makes for a strong and more rigid structure without adding a lot of weight. The last 2 wing bays don't need the I-beam support, so it is just a piece of 1/16" sq stock.

Broke the stab with fumble fingers. glued it back together with some support. Wing tips laminated over a form.

Ian,
There are very small EDF's (electric ducted fans) that are made with only an 11" to 16" span necessary to get them to fly.  Check this out at HPA: Click Here
