Decided to use Deluxe light balsa filler thinned with a bit of water over all the body. Quite a soft filler so repeated and added a bit of white glue sanded and painted with undercoat. Still need to sand the bulbous nose and cone I made out of lime so it merges better.

Still a way off doing doing the fiddly bits.

Ah speckle sounds like our poly filler used to seal joins in plaster board, now they use tape so I believe. There is this guy on NRG forum Tim Moore who built a Guillow’s Spitfire and covered it with filler that’s were I got my idea to try [email protected] as it looked fantastic although the best builders on this forum are just as skilled. Afraid my ship modelling is on hold as thought of doing 500 clove hitches gives me a migraine.

Sorry for being a real johnny-come-lately to this thread....  Back in the days during which I used to believe I might some day become a real model-builder...I used to use standard wall-board joint compound(also known a Spackle)...literally was available in 5 gallon plastic buckets(and smaller containers as well) at any hardware retail outlet...would last forever!  Would fill joints, dents, etc...then sand.  Paint with clear dope...saturate it...then, when dry, sand again with fine-grit paper.  Last step was to cover with tissue...now ready for the sealer/paint/dope...whatever you're doing.  Believe me...I was doing that before anyone, to my knowledge, was marketing some brand-named filler for the purpose.  It worked well...and never cracked out on me.  Model would need to suffer a very serious impact for that to happen...and by then, it would have been the least of my problems...if you get my drift.  Hey, that all began back when we would "misappropriate" whatever Pop had "laying around."

I think the sand and sealer would be better.  The filler is just that, fills crevasses, holes and low spots.  But to smooth out grain, usually is multible thin coats of dope/sealer with sanding inbetween. I haven't tried their Sanding Sealer.

Here's the modeling filler by Deluxe who IIRC make EzeDope.  It's tinted balsa color so it doesn't stand out under tissue like regular sheetrock filler.
