Speaking of old "kit," I came across this pic that intrigues my mind whenever I look at it...obviously a Roman Legionnaire's bronze helmet...2,000 years old.  It was found in Hebron, Israel not long ago. Best guess is that it was a bit of "booty" captured by bar-Kochba Revolt rebels (132-135 CE).  One can imagine some young stud going home with it...pulling it out of a sack...and everyone (family) suffering near-heart attacks.  "Get that thing out of here!" Mama screamed!  Imagine Roman reactions toward anyone caught in possession of such "contraband!"  It was hidden so well (no one came back for it) that for the next 2,000 years it stayed out of sight.  It really is in remarkable condition!  If it could only tell us its story...I imagine its Roman owner came to a very bad end...and ultimately, so did its liberator.

Never did get it built. Had nobody to help or get advice from. Had no clue.
It's great that today we have forums and printers and plans sites.

  It's great that the plans sites can provide for future builders in a way we never could. SO many plans and all you have to do is go get them.  For free.
  Same with the forums.  You can get inspiration and advice for free from all over the world.

That is all we older guys had growing up. They used harder wood that would stand up to the 'die-crunching' process. Sometimes they would use a 'softer' sheet and it would crush the edges in the process. I actually preferred the sheets that were only printed on, rather than pre-cut for this reason. But if you want a piece of 'oak', you only need to look at one of those kits. Nevertheless, nostalgia takes over and you just have to get a 'kit' so you can relive the joy and smells of unpacking one. I got an old Guillows Spad kit to build to relive having done it before. It didn't fly well the last time I built it, but I am older and wiser now.

By the way, I noticed that OZ does not have a scan of the printwood. You would be doing the modelling world a great favour if you passed those scans of the printwood on to the folks at OZ.
