Wing halves basically complete The elevons will be hinged either with wire, or aluminum strip. As a peanut, it almost qualifies as a Bostonian.

I made a bit of progress on the wing. Ribs cut out and glued to the LE which is 3/32 square.

By glider - I meant a 'toss gently' glider. I thought about a catapult launch, but that would require strengthening of the bottom of the fuselage to take a peg or wire clip. If it won't work as a glider, then it won't work under power. It depends on how stable and how difficult to trim it is whether it gets power or not in the end.

Looks like a solid foundation to me. Nice lines.
When you said glider, do you mean a chuck glider?

Ian,
Looking great!  I've had that problem with former orientation in the past but I now put a small colored dot at the top using whatever color pen is available.  Not big but big enough to find for orientation, usually located on the backside of the former.  This way the dots are lined upon the back of the formers and don't show when covered.

So, the second fuselage attempt is off of the jig now. with removeable pegs, it can be put back on the jig for stringer additions later.

Not my idea at all. I am only climbing on the shoulders of giants here. I ran into a snag. I have a problem with top or bottom in these egg-shaped fuselages, so I mixed up 2 formers. I had to cut the longerons apart and clean out the slots in the formers and make another set of longerons. I just started to put it back together again now. This time paying even closer attention to proper positioning. Double and triple-checking caught another couple of errors before the glue had time to set. I found out that the front part of the longerons needed strengthening because the grain shears too easily. So a doubler longeron was done between F1 and F2. I am sure that there will be other obstacles. I haven't built anything yet that went right the first time, except for the simplest stick gliders.

Looks like some pretty solid planning on your part. Off to a great start.
I might need to steal your building jig idea some day. That seems to work just fine.

Outstanding Ian,
I've had a thing for unusual aircraft and especially the early prototypes in the time just after WWII.  This is really an intriguing one!

I think your choice of peanut scale is genius!!!  13" span and really light fuselage.  I especially like the flying wing aspect!  Can't wait to see your progress!
When you show how it's done, I might have to give it a try using reed formers and 1/32"x1/16" stringers (Kounty style).  Smiley

I have been interested in the McDonnell XF-85 Goblin since I saw pictures of it a long time ago. So far, I don't think there has been a successful model made of it. An R/C version I saw had trouble with stability. I started work on a plan for the Goblin in December and just got the preliminary design worked out. Through its history, they added winglets, and increased rudder area. I hoped that the stability problems in the model might be overcome by approaching it as a flying wing. So, the wing will have a reflex airfoil based on Bill Brown's plan for the Me 334, with moveable ailerons and a bit of washout. I first started work on the fuselage this weekend. It took most of a sheet of 1/16" to make the formers. I decided to give a fuselage jig a try for this one.

I am first going to do it just as a glider. If it flies, then I might try adding a pusher prop.
