Sorry it took me so long to reply, Bob. I thought all weekend that I'd power it up and have something to report, but lazy seems to have gotten the best of me. Actually, more than that, I've been so preoccupied with the DT, nose block and prop in the Senator, there hasn't been a lot of thought about this one.

Sure need to get it done before the summer heat sets in!

No in-flight photos yet, Bob. BUT, I did get out a little bit ago in some dead calm, but high humidity conditions for some trimming tosses.

I think I mentioned a couple tosses onto the bed before and saying how sweet the glide was. Well, that glide also translates to the outside! Released from shoulder high, this thing glides straight ahead and touches down on the mains at 25 to 30 feet away. Cheesy

Now to decide on rubber width and some calculations as to length. I'll break in, lube and braid, then we re-balance and take a test hop! Hope the calm evenings hang around a few days. Smiley

Thank you much, Tom. I'm pretty proud of it. Ordered some assorted blast tubes from 'Shorty's Basement' that arrived today. When I get my stooge done, I'll be ready to load up the motor and give it a whirl (or half a whirl at first)!!

Terry, even though I've not had any actual flight time that would prove how well it works, it all functions very smoothly and just as it should. The prop is balanced and just a breath will freely spin it.

To tell the truth, the weight savings was not even one of my considerations in carving this prop. I'm like you, weight up front has always been my friend! The reason I did this one was mostly to see if I could. They have always seemed a mystery to me, something I could never figure out. I've read from others about how relaxing and satisfying carving a prop can be. I can't say, at this point, that it's relaxing, but the satisfaction part is definitely true!  Smiley

David... just love the Parasol.  The scheme is outstanding.  Well done with the "paint" program.  I'd forgotten to mention that possibility.  Great stuff.

David,

Very nice prop and freewheel.  Do they work OK or too soon to tell?  Was the weight savings worthwhile?  I have failed to built an a/c so light that it doesn't need extra nose weight even with plastic props.

OK, this is all there is to add except the motor. The white fin lettering was finally accomplished in 'Paint' by changing the lettering to white after making the background red. Then print on white tissue and trim reasonably close. I can certainly live with the results.

My first carved prop ever. It's 9" long (have no clue as to pitch) and weighs 4 grams compared to the 27 gram block I started with. Also my first attempt at a free wheeling device. I'm pretty happy with the whole thing!

Took it outside for the final photos a little while ago. Wind is gusting to around 14 to 15 mph. It wanted to weather vane into the wind or completely blow away the whole time.

CD...you could use a gell pen on red tissue to make the numbers and letters etc. then cut close to the lettering and glue the tissue in place on the fin.
