Thank you, Jim, for posting the picture of your Snow AT-802U.  Looks good.  Have you flown it, yet?  Is it for control-line?

I was puzzled by the Cox Space Hopper, so I Googled it and indeed Cox produced it a while back.  I had forgotten about it.  I had a Cox Space Bug around the mid to late 1950's and scratch built a P-40 for it.  Posted some stuff about it at the bottom of the Stick & Tissue page at http://www.stickandtissue.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1428715653/15

I hope I'm not crashing this thread but here's a shot of my airtractor gunship. It's good for about 70 mph with a highly modified cox space hopper.

Thanks, Bob and Tom for the comments.

Bob, I've started work on the modified Phantom Flash and will post the results on the Comet 'dimer' cookup thread.

Tom, I think the incidence issue will easily be corrected by rearranging the tail mounting slot.

Love it Simple Flyer,

I know you'll work out the incidence situation and have the "ACE" flying top notch!

.....tell me a little on how you propell your tether airplanes

Bob, it is pretty much like the young lad is doing in the Comet kit illustration below.

However, I attach a 12 foot long telescoping fish pole to the line before start swinging.  Some modelers prefer to follow the the model as the model flys in a circle, much like one would fly U-control.  At my advanced age going around in a circle is not advisable as I would get dizzy and I would fall down which would not be a good thing.  So I just stand in one place and swing the pole in a circle over my head and the model just follows along.  I try to trim the models for straight and level flight and most of the time the flying goes OK.

Got the vertical tail and top of the wing coated with 2 coats of thinned white glue.

One of the wing panels was beginning to warp a bit. We tried pinning the panel to the building board while painting but a bit warping persisted. So we decided to give the Air Tractor a test flight. It was a bit breezy tor testing, but could be accomplished on a short line.

A few toss glides show that the AT wants to fly at relatively slow gliding speeds. At slow swing speeds it would try to fly but not as smoothly as one would expect. And in breezy conditions it became excessively loopy. So we slid the wing back in its mount and moved the line attachment point closer to the leading edge. This seemed to help the flight characteristics so some acceptable flights were accomplished.

The model was build with about 5 degrees incidence, this is a bit more than we usually use, so we may need to reduce this angle.  I think we'll put the Air Tractor aside for awhile to sort out the incidence problem.  Meanwhile, we will begin work on the modified Phantom Flash for the Comet dimer cookup.

Made some more progress today.  Wing complete except for gussets and fuselage slots cut.

A test fit of the parts.

Gluing doublers to fuselage and gussets to wing center section.

Close-up view of how the sliding removable wing is attached.

Ace will soon be ready for a test flight.  Attaching a bit of tissue to the wing and tail and a few coats of thinned Elmers and a couple minor details and it will be ready to check out.

Bob, I'm glad you find the thread interesting, farther into the thread we plan to build some more of Leland Snow's Ag aircraft, including some of his first Snow Aero-Corp. S series.  Currently, we're researching his first ag plane the S-1.  So far all that we have been able to find are a few pictures of the airplane and that Mr Snow had useed parts from the Stinson 108 and L-5 in its construction.

Made some progress on the wing today.

Although, it is a bit chilly here,  25 degrees last night, a bit cold for South TX.  We did make some progress on the AT-402.
