Brad,
I think if you followed the rules and posted the plans here, that would qualify for the Neo/Pseudo Dime Scale requirements.  But I'm thinking you'd want those smooth lines and not flat sides to the fuselage and squared off bottom behind the wing trailing edge.  So this one might be better in the regular current rubber powered construction board.  I do like the looks of this bird and all those curves will be a challenge to build and then to cover!

Guys, I don't make the rules...but if we call it a Peanut/Pistaschio/Dime Scale/Pseudo-Dime Scale Cookup, we probably ought to follow the rules of that model description!

Otherwise we're just making sport models of our own choosing and that's not quite what we voted for.

Tom - I never knew about all of these intricate rules either - I thought it was just 16" wingspan or less, and anything goes ... which would be more fun, to me anyways  Cool Cool

Tom:  so is this plane OK for this build?  It's modern - not built prior to 1950, and the 'plans' haven't been published.

I'll bow out with this plane if it is not appropriate for this cook up.  I have many others on my list I could build instead.

Brad,
Yes any Peanut, Pistachio, Dime Scale or Neo/Pseudo Dime Scale (Plans made after original Dime Scale were published/kitted, and in the same manner of Dime Scale plans).
Flying Aces Club Rules 2016-2017 for Dime Scale
VII. DIME SCALE Traditional Dimers are built from plans produced during the “golden age” of modeling; Pseudo
Dimers are built from contemporary designs that honor the methods, structural simplicity, and details typical of those early plans.
VII-1.0 BASIC RULES
A. Dime Scale models are to be of simple design and easy construction such as those built from 10 cent kits or plans
representing full scale airplanes built prior to December 31, 1949.
B. Wing span: 16 inches maximum.
C. When a Pseudo plan is created, the plan size is limited to one sheet of 11 X 17 inch paper plus one 8.5” X 11”parts page
with engineering and details in the spirit of the original era.
1. Pseudo Dime plans must appear in a recognized publication to be approved as an Official Dimer for FAC events.
2. Manufactured kits created from approved Dime Scale plans will be grandfathered in, even where the plans provided
in the kit may exceed the dimensional specs noted above. Example: EasyBuilt Beech Staggerwing.
D. Props must be one piece wood or molded plastic.
E. Model and plan must be presented to the CD prior to first flight for static pass/fail judging and awarding of bonus points.
VII-2.0 DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
A. General construction:
1. Minimum wood size:
a. Greater than 14” wingspan: 1/16" thick sheet or square sticks.
b. 14" or less wingspan: 1/32" thick sheet and 1/20" square sticks.
c. Stiff paper called for on some plans may be replaced by 1/32" sheet or stringers with tissue.
2. Butt joints on plans, and landing gear struts may be reinforced with wire, sheet balsa or 1/32" ply.
3. No use of foam.
4. No vacuum formed /plunge molded parts EXCEPT canopies (see “Dime Scale Points / Criteria” chart, below)
B. Fuselage:
1. Pseudo Dimers must be engineered with box girder fuselage with formers.
2. The nose on Traditional dimers may be altered to accommodate improved thrust bearings and removable nose plugs.
3. Rear motor peg may be located anywhere within fuselage or nacelles.
C. Wings and tail feathers:
1. Wings may be one piece with spars added or moved. One piece stabs and rudders are permitted.
2. Stab and rudder may be reduced or enlarged moderately.
3. No laminated, wet / hot bent square balsa strip or otherwise "formed" curved balsa tips.
4. Wet / hot bent or “formed” bamboo tips are O.K.
5. Sheet wood may be substituted for bamboo tips called for on some traditional dimer plans.
6. No sliced or cracked ribs.
7. No under cambered wings unless shown on original era plan.
D. Dihedral (Traditional and Pseudo):
1. 1" max per side for models with less than 14" W/S.
2. 1.5" max per side for models with 14" to 16" W/S.
E. Coverings:
1. Double covering required unless original era plan specifically states "single covering."
2. Single covering OK if original era kit supplied just one set of wing insignias or markings.
F. Any color and markings on an original era plan may be changed to another era-appropriate combination.
VII-3.0 STATIC JUDGING / BONUS POINTS / SCORING
A. Models will be “judged” solely for fidelity to plan, both in construction and scale detail. If a detail is on the plan, it must
be on the model. “Judging” is strictly pass/fail, in accord with the event rules.
B. Dimers are not held to the standards of scale fidelity or craftsmanship as FAC Scale models. No scale points are awarded.
C. Dime Scale Bonus points: cumulative if model meets multiple criteria. (See “Dime Scale Bonus Points” chart below)
D. Flight Score: Combined total of 3 official flights.
E. Total Score: bonus points added once to total flight score.

I'm in  Smiley  I'll start on the cook up plane after I finish my current build - Little Gem.

I will be building the Hot Stuff racer  Cool  It's been on my build list for a while now and yes, it's another race plane.

I have no plans or 3-view drawing.  I have a collection of photos that give me some good working images.  It's going to be a challenge - plus it's one curvy little plane!!!

Has anyone seen a 3-view? or plans?  I don't mind help.

Question:  Just to be sure, in this cook up we can build either Peanut or Dime scale - our choice - and any plane?  Also, is Dime scale 16 inch span? Are  there any other rules?  What is Neo Dime Scale?

Wally Farrell had a Spanish Civil War aircraft at WestFAC with magnets holding the (large) wheel pants to the wing.  Worked very well - I watched the plane come in fast on the perimeter dirt road and the gear popped off nicely, leaving both wing and pants completely undamaged.

Dave,
With the P-26 I'd consider making pop off main gear spats. You could achieve this with tongue and slot or use tube and peg attachment.  Both of those would allow the wing to be inserted through the fuselage and the gear attached later.  I tend to build with the gear retracted and use plug in gear for display.  Then remove for flying.  But the Peashooter had fixed gear.  But this would work before gluing on the gear.

Mike Stuart's site shows the tongue and socket setup for his P-26: Click Here  If you haven't checked out Mike's site, I highly recommend it.  His site was instrumental in getting me back into Stick and Tissue models.

Tom, This P-26 has been on the back burner for a long time, because of how the wing mounts. It sucks. I was going to mount a wing cradle above the wing, like shown on your plan. Then I could have a center section in the wing, and slide it in the hole after covering. Is this what you are going to do? But then I guess, I cant have the landing gear wires glued in place, before covering the wing?

Here's mine - a Dave Diels plan for Brewster F2A-2 "Buffalo". Had this plan for about 20 years so is time to do it justice.
