I think the sand and sealer would be better.  The filler is just that, fills crevasses, holes and low spots.  But to smooth out grain, usually is multible thin coats of dope/sealer with sanding inbetween. I haven't tried their Sanding Sealer.

Hey Tom,
Would that stuff help smooth out the grain before applying tissue?
Like a sealer? Does it brush on?

I checked it out, The same folks sell a sand and seal. I think I will try that stuff out.

Here's the modeling filler by Deluxe who IIRC make EzeDope.  It's tinted balsa color so it doesn't stand out under tissue like regular sheetrock filler.

Amazon has the white for around $13: Click Here

Tower Hobbies has the tinted brown around $10: Click Here

HOLY COW YOU PUT ALOT OF WORK INTO THAT !!!
Looks Fantasic !!

Spackling is a joint compound they use to fill the seems and cover screws/nails in drywall that is installed on the walls and ceilings of most modern homes, ect.   {some call that plaster board, or fireproof board} Its cheap and some is crazy light. It's basically a plaster/gypsum mix.  Mix it thin with water, smear it on, sand it off. Super easy to work with.
Since this wont fly, any craft plaster will work and is easy to work with. Like the stuff your kids would play with.
I may be wrong but some use a flour /water paste mix, like with paper machet.  I will try to link a recipe.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaLmdRBvGG4

Of course you would probly skip the paper strips. Maybe go a tad thicker on flour or starch.  Joint compound wont shrink as bad if you get the right kind. Of course be sure to try this on scrap before you apply it to that FANTASTIC fuse!!! Balsa will suck the water out fast so season to taste.
Love that thing.

Hope this helps.

Well 48 pieces of balsa later  I’ve infilled the fuselage and sanded it flush to the longerons, bulkheads supplied. Not perfect but the camera is very unforgiving.   Undecided

Looking for advice is there a particular type of filler best for finishing off. I know you guys in Canada/USA call it spackling but is this a wood filler or a general filler we call poly filler.

Some people infill with scrap styrofoam., if that helps
Not all foam plays well with spray paint.

Thanks, they are good, but I do think Guillows is the best certainly in terms of wood quality.

I am awaiting some balsa for infilling but the mail in UK is very slow. Plan A was to cover fuselage in card but results not brilliant so onto Plan B infill.

You'll find lots of ideas and suggestions on our "paints" section: Click Here
I've found using Krylon or Dope to seal the the tissue before painting helps shrink up the tissue pretty well and avoids the wrinkling so much.  The next thing is if you're going to spray paint it's best to use an airbrush and inexpensive one can be found on the net fairly easy and they'll work good enought for the finishes we use.  Lots of fellas are now turning to printing tissue, which I've not mastered yet. (requires a water/dope proof ink such as Epson DuraBrite ink).  If you're going to use rattle cans I suggest letting them sit in hot water for 5-10 minutes before sprlaying and then shake thouroughly and hold at least 12 inches from the tissue and just fog it on.  Don't apply the paint too thick!!! Please feel free to ask many questions.  You'll find the fellas will have lots of input for you!
Press on... Smiley

My fault for the lack of clarity.
I meant painting most likely spraying a green Color onto a white tissue as I have some tissue left over from a Guillow’s Hurricane.
Was wondering about efficiency of coverage with one coat of say green or blue onto a neutral coloured  tissue.
With my limited experience I found with each spraying coat the tissue goes slack then tightens up but not always perfectly. Hence my hesitancy about doing multiples sprays.

Thanks for posting the Color schemes Wink

I didn't realize the kit included "red" tissue.  When you say white tissue would cover with green. I need a bit more info.  If you're talking green tissue over white tissue, yes it would.  But you need to find a scheme and work from there.  A Google search will turn up many paint schemes from the real thing.  Then choose from those to adopt a scheme for your model. You can go from mild to wild!!  Here's a few pictures.

Sky,

The red is the plane, red tissue included, one of MvR’s  I expect.
Wouldn’t mind another Color scheme do you think a white tissue would cover with green?

Nice start on the fuselage.  I look forward to seeing your progress.  I assume "red" has to do with the box and not the aircraft?
